Musings....

She was a remarkable woman with an inquisitive mind , and an adventurous spirit. She'd come to America as an immigrant from Switzerland shortly before her 20th birthday, along with an older brother. Their goal was much the same as today's immigrants, to start a new life in a country which promised opportunity and a better way of life.

My Mom would have been 97 years old today, and I'm remembering her fondly. I recall how she studied and struggled to pass the exam leading to U.S. citizenship....she probably knew more about the Constitution than most born in this country. I was only 5 when she took the test in 1940. She'd been in this country for about 11 years at that time. She had a strong and abiding faith in God, in her country of choice, and in her children....and I'm missing her today.

On another note...
I ran across this site this morning, and found it fascinating! Check it out, and be sure to click on the individual tiles....it'll keep you busy for awhile ...and it's pretty amazing.

I'm feeling bad for Amy right about now. She said it's absolutely FREEZING! They went to a BYU football game Saturday and got snowed on!

Thanks Chelsea, that was sweet. :)
As for the snow at the game...football and cold weather kinda go together...Amy's young and hardy...lookin' forward to the hot chocolate after the game can be inspiring too...and romantic. :)

I found some of Grandma's photo albums in the stuff that we brought here from Debbie's. I was looking through them tonight, remembering all her trips and the friends she made everywhere. I wish she'd been a better archivist, though. Hardly any of the pictures have even a date, much less a note as to who is in the picture. Such an amazing life she led! Today's immigrants could learn a thing or two (or at least a language - English!) I do miss her...
