Yes!!!

We've just had the most exciting thunder/lightning storm I've seen in years! Here in parched northern Nevada, that's a gift which would seem unimaginable to those in wetter climes. I've been hungry for a good old-fashioned gully washer, and that's exactly what we just got. Not the piddly little Summer sprinkles which have been in such short supply this year, but an ear-splitting, water-coursing-down-the windows display of nature at it's finest...it was so fabulous!

My Tux confronted each clap of thunder with his most menacing growl, the power went out for a bit, I ran back and forth through the house opening all the blinds to better watch the magic (the lightning was beautiful too), and now, too soon, it's over. The air does smell delicious and the gutters are still running from the overflow. I'm hoping for an afternoon repeat, but am grateful for, and in awe of the morning show. When I lived in Oregon, displays like that were common, and I never tired of them. Here, since they are so rare, I find myself really appreciating them even more....guess that's the secret.

When Linda and I had our early-morning visit by phone, she said that it was raining hard in Mesquite and it was dry as a bone here...glad it heard the envy in my voice and made its way up here. John is spending the weekend with Danny, they're going to a Doobie Brothers concert. Danny will bring him home tomorrow and we're hoping to all have dinner at Wendy's before Danny heads back to California and his family. So, life is good. Think rain everybody.

We had a beautiful stormy day too, until about 3PM then the clouds rolled away, but it stayed nice and warm, not hot. Sarah and I took Elizabeth & Elijah across the street to the park, Elizabeth fell and cut her gum, but besides that they had a ball. Elijah learned how to go up the stairs and slide down the slide himself, Elizabeth was already a pro at that. They are both learning Sign Language and I am amazed at how many words they know. They are such good babies. It was so good to have the four of them here for the day. Jason didn't make it because he had to work but he will see Jeremy & Sarah tonight in Vegas. Hope all is well with everyone, Love you Mom enjoy the rain while it lasts.

Sign language, that's wonderful. Babies can absorb so much more than they used to be given credit for. There's a great special edition of "Scientific American" (my very favorite magazine) out which is all about babies and the early years. Really fascinating stuff....tell Sarah and Jeremy, I think they'd enjoy it....hope it's still on the stands. There's an article on "Abstract Ideas"..how tots come to learn symbols, and another on "Baby Einstein"..about thought from infants. I'll save my copy...if they can't find it, I'll send it to them.
